More points in Jerez

Fenton Seabright , who rides for Barnsley’s Wilson Racing, had two points scoring finishes in the extremely competitive European Talent Cup series in Jerez, Spain. The standard Moto3 series is seen as a breeding ground for future MotoGP talent with Wilson Racing one of just two British teams competing in the series. Qualifying After a couple of very positive free practice days qualifying took place on Saturday. With nearly 60 riders the format is to split the riders into two groups. Jerez 2019 Fenton Seabright was out in the first group at around nine on Saturday morning. The track temperature was still cool. He recorded a 1:51.020 which put him sixth. Unfortunately, Seabright miscalculated the time left at the end of the session. This meant he made a late pit stop for fresh rubber but he was unable to make the best use of it. Despite that he had set a good time and the team knew there could be more to come in Q2. The second session was very early in the afternoon. It is often the...

Photo: Rocio Hellin Cano From the rain soaked circuit of Estoril the European Talent Cup moved to sunny Valencia for round two. Wilson Racing, the Moto3 team from Barnsley, suffered mixed fortunes over the weekend. Jack Hart showed fantastic pace but crashed out of both races, the first whilst leading. Seabright suffered a harsh grid penalty of 12 places but managed to comeback and score points in both races. Qualifying With 62 riders attempting to make the 38 rider grid qualifying was split into two groups. Jack Hart continued the form that saw him stand on the podium in the recent British Talent Cup event as he finished third in his group. Fenton Seabright also set a good lap time ending his two qualifying sessions in seventh overall. Unfortunately for the runner up in race one at Estoril, he was sanctioned with a 12 place grid penalty. Dream European start for Wilson Racing with Seabright on the podium

Dream European start for Wilson Racing with Seabright on the podium

A whole new championship lay in wait for Barnsley’s Wilson Racing last weekend. Having competed successfully in the Moto3 standard class of the British Superbike series, and taking the championship title in 2017, Gary Wilson entered the team into the European Talent Cup (ETC). The ETC is a standard Moto3 championship, based predominantly in Spain, and is seen by many as a stepping stone for riders that will eventually go on to MotoGP level. Both his riders come from the UK. Jack Hart raced in the championship a few years back and has some experience of the set up and the tracks. For Fenton Seabright most of the tracks are new, although he grew up in Spain and raced with some of the riders when he was younger. Photo: Agusti Nubiola The conditions for the first round of the 2019 championship were far from ideal. One could be forgiven for thinking the first round at Estoril in Portugal might...

Motostar Cadwell Park 2018

Motostar Cadwell Park 2018

Last weekend was one of the toughest Gary Wilson and his Barnsley based Moto3 team have had to take in the last few years as three of his five riders crashed in the first race and two of them were taken to a hospital. Race One Jake Clark took a tumble on lap four coming out of Coppice. He was taken to the medical centre. Scott Ogden fell on the same lap after his fantastic start had seen him move into third place. Perhaps pushing a bit too hard he high-sided out of Mansfield but wasn’t injured. With just a couple of laps to go a rider’s chain jumped off the sprocket as he rode up The Mountain section of the track. He slowed rapidly and another rider ran into the back of him. His bike then fell on the track. Charlie Atkins was riding hard and was unable to avoid the stricken bike as he somersaulted over the handlebars and onto...
