Wilson Racing sealed the Hel Performance British Motostar Standard Class Championship title with rider Max Cook in 2017. It was an unbelievable season which saw Cook score an incredible 517 points. On his way to that tally, he registered twenty-two podiums and fifteen race victories. His nearest rival was a staggering 148 points behind in the standings. The season couldn’t have started better for Wilson Racing. Cook scored a victory in both the races in the opening round at Donington Park and went on to win seven consecutive races. He wrapped the championship up in the second race at Oulton Park meaning he did it with four more races still to go. Max Cook made it five wins from five races. Charlie Atkins secured sixth and his best result of the season. Tom Alexander picked up four more championship points continuing his record of scoring in every round. Barnsley’s Moto3 team Wilson Racing completed a successful round at Oulton Park in the Hel Performance Motostar British standard class Championship. The 2.8 mile circuit in Cheshire is a firm favourite on the British Superbike calendar. On the Saturday the riders enjoyed two free practice session in good conditions. In the first of them Max Cook was the only rider to break the 1:50 minute barrier. His 1:49.929 placed him at the top of the timesheet. In the second free practice a broken foot peg hampered Cook’s chances of further improvement. Wilson Racing, the Moto3 team from Barnsley were back in action last weekend on the Bands Hatch Indy circuit. It was the second round of the Hel Performance Motostar British standard class Championship. The weekend started well with 14-year-old Max Cook topping FP1 on Friday. Charlie Atkins, also 14, was sixth quickest whilst 13-year-old rookie Tom Alexander finished 13th on the time-sheet. FP2 didn’t take place until Saturday lunchtime. All three riders bettered their lap times from the day before. Cook remained first overall in the standard class. Despite improving his time Atkins slipped to 9th and Alexander cut nearly seven tenths off his FP1 time. That afternoon the riders were back out on circuit to take part in the 25 minute qualifying session. The Wilson Racing team riders all reduced their lap times further. Max Cook was under pressure for top spot in qualifying but his 50.288 lap time was sufficient for pole position. Atkins qualified in 9th with a 51.766 and...

Gary Wilson from Dronfield and his Moto3 racing team took part in round one of the Hel Performance Motostar British standard class Championship at Donington Park last weekend. With all the riders in the class racing similar Moto3 machines the category is very competitive. Free practice started well for Max Cook as he ended the day at the top of the timesheets with a lap time of 1:42.483. Charlie Atkins posted the seventh quickest time and Tom Alexander improved his lap time over the two sessions by more than 1º.5 seconds. Qualification proved to be one of highs and lows for the team. Max Cook continued his superb form registering the fastest time in the standard class. In fact his lap time was good enough to place him in the middle of row two in the combined GP and standard class starting grid. The British Superbike pre-season testing programme got into full swing in Southern Spain last week. Gary Wilson and his team of three Moto3 riders spent four days testing at the circuit at Cartagena alongside the British Superbike teams. Wilson Racing compete in the Moto3 Hel Performance Motostar British Championship standard class and are hoping to build on the successes of their first year. Gary Wilson’s 2016 riders finished fourth and eighth in the series in 2016. For 2017 Max Cook and Tom Alexander have joined Charlie Atkins to form a three rider team. The Cartagena circuit usually enjoys good weather throughout most of the year, making it a firm favourite for the teams to test at. The 3.5 kilometre circuit has a main straight of just over 600 metres, 8 left hand corners and 10 right-handers providing most of the ingredients needed to help prepare for the coming season. The Wilson Racing team, who compete in the Hel Performance Motostar British Championship standard class, have expanded to a three rider team for the 2017 season. The team turned a few heads last year when in its first season in the standard class championship its riders finished fourth and eighth and took a race win. Charlie Atkins Whilst TJ Toms has moved on to race in the National Superstock 600 class, Gary Wilson has retained the services of 13-year-old Charlie Atkins. He finished 8th in the standard class and took his maiden victory at Assen. The youngster from Goole made the podium twice and continued to improve as the season went on. Previously he has been a double British Minimoto Champion. Max Cook Joining Atkins will be 14-year-old Max Cook. The two rode against each other in the Aprilia Superteen series in 2015 where Cook took the championship title and numerous lap records.
