Wilson Racing complete strong weekend at Cadwell Park

Gary Wilson and his Moto3 team from Barnsley had another successful weekend at Cadwell Park, in round eight of the Hel Performance Motostar British standard class Championship. Max Cook took a victory and a second place, Charlie Atkins a fourth and fifth place and rookie Jake Clark an 11th and 13th place finish. Free Practice The British Moto3 series started on the Friday with two free practice sessions. Cook was struggling for feeling with his bike and ended the day third quickest almost 1.5 seconds behind the fastest standard class rider. Charlie Atkins had been unwell overnight and in the morning. He was confined to his bed between the two sessions. Despite that he managed to clock the seventh best time. Jake Clark took seven tenths off his lap time to end the day 12th. Qualifying Saturday morning the riders went out for one 25 minute qualifying session. Early on Cook was in fourth but with the chequered flag waving to indicate the end...

Wilson Racing 1-2 at Thruxton

The Moto3 Wilson Racing Team from Barnsley were at Thruxton in the seventh round of the Hel Performance Motostar British standard class Championship. The support series to the British Superbike Championship started on Friday with two free practice sessions. FP1 turned out to be very eventful for Max Cook. Whilst the championship leader finished second overall he had a high-side on his tenth lap. This led to another rider crashing into his bike. Both riders were OK but Cook’s bike suffered major damage. The team worked flat out, replacing the chassis, fuel tank and fuel pump to get him back on track for FP2 where he finished fourth overall with a 1:24.307. Charlie Atkins set a good pace in FP1 and reduced his lap time by 1.6 seconds to 1:24.706. Jake Clark was experiencing the sweeping curves of Thruxton for the first time. Another winning weekend for Wilson Racing

Last weekend Barnsley’s Wilson Racing were at Brands hatch in the sixth round of the Hel Performance Motostar British Standard class championship. The three-rider team had two free practice sessions on the Friday. Max Cook finished second quickest in the morning session before ending the day at the top of the standard class timesheet. Charlie Atkins has historically struggled at this track but was sixth quickest at the end of the first day. Jake Clark had never ridden the Brands hatch GP circuit before and managed to reduce his lap time by 1.5 seconds over the two free practice sessions. The Moto3 riders were up early on Saturday morning with qualifying starting at 9am. There had been heavy overnight rain so the track was still damp. As a result all the riders started the 30 minute qualifying session on wet tyres. With around ten minutes to go the team took the decision to bring the riders in and switch to dry tyres. Cook...

Barnsley’s Wilson Racing Moto3 team enjoyed another successful weekend at Snetterton competing in the fifth round of the Hel Performance Motostar British Standard Class Championship. Race One Motostar Snetterton 2017 Max Cook was looking to continue his fantastic winning streak in race one after setting the fastest lap time in qualifying. However, he was thwarted when another rider T-boned him in the first corner. Somehow he stayed on the bike but he ran on to the grass. He also found he was stuck in third gear. At the end of the first lap he pulled into the pits where the team quickly bent the quickshifter back into position. He’d lost over a minute on the leading riders but battled back for tenth place and six points. 14-year-old Charlie Atkins had qualified fifth and was looking to continue his good form from the last round that saw him score 24 points from the two races. Jake Clark joins Wilson Racing

14-year-old Jake Clark has joined Max Cook and Charlie Atkins in the Wilson Racing Team. The Bromsgrove youngster has been competing in the Aprilia Superteens series this season, which both Max and Charlie did in the past, but withdrew to save funds in the hope of securing a ride in the Hel Performance Motostar British standard class. "Clarky", as he is known, now has that opportunity with Wilson Racing and commences a new stage in his motorcycle career at the Snetterton 300 circuit this weekend. Look out for the number "13". Although Clark has been into bikes from a very young age it was in 2011/2012 that he began to race. He did some events at the Scott Redding Academy in Swindon before entering the Mini-Moto4.2 class of Fab-Racing. He progressed through to the Minimoto GP70 series in 2015 and finished runner-up. When he isn't racing he likes to play rugby and go cycling....

A Cook double and Atkins best finish of the season

A cool wind met the riders of the Hel Performance Motostar British Championship at Knockhill on Friday. The 1.3 mile circuit with its famous left-hand blind corner known as Duffus Dip was hosting round four of the Moto3 championship. Max Cook went into the weekend having won all five of the championship races this year. However, this track proved less straightforward for the 14-year-old. At the end of the twenty minute session he was third quickest in the standard class. After a six week gap between races team-mate Charlie Atkins struggled to find his rhythm early on and finished in seventh place. In the afternoon there was light rain at the circuit in Fife. The second free practice session saw most riders opting for safety, and clearly lap times didn’t improve. The Saturday was a quiet day for the Moto3 riders, with just the qualifying session, as both races were held on the Sunday. Max Cook managed to drop his lap time further...

Wilson Racing wildcard in NEC Moto3 at Donington Park

Wilson Racing’s Max Cook was back on track at Donington last weekend, as he and Wilson Racing took part as a wildcard in the ADAC North European Moto3 standard class Championship. The ADAC NEC is a similar championship to the British Superbike Moto3 support series that Max Cook is currently dominating. Whilst there were a few familiar faces also wildcarding in the event most of the riders were unknown to the team. 14-year-old Cook was racing against Dirk Geiger who races for Keifer Racing in the ADAC series and like Cook has won all his races this year. His team-mate Toni Erhard is also very competitive as is Simon Jespersen a Danish rider who also won a race in the European Talent Cup in Albacete earlier in 2017. On Friday Cook was suffering some sickness but did well to qualify 12th on the combined GP and standard class grid and third overall for the standard class. Max Cook made it five wins from five races. Charlie Atkins secured sixth and his best result of the season. Tom Alexander picked up four more championship points continuing his record of scoring in every round. Barnsley’s Moto3 team Wilson Racing completed a successful round at Oulton Park in the Hel Performance Motostar British standard class Championship. The 2.8 mile circuit in Cheshire is a firm favourite on the British Superbike calendar. On the Saturday the riders enjoyed two free practice session in good conditions. In the first of them Max Cook was the only rider to break the 1:50 minute barrier. His 1:49.929 placed him at the top of the timesheet. In the second free practice a broken foot peg hampered Cook’s chances of further improvement. Wilson Racing, the Moto3 team from Barnsley were back in action last weekend on the Bands Hatch Indy circuit. It was the second round of the Hel Performance Motostar British standard class Championship. The weekend started well with 14-year-old Max Cook topping FP1 on Friday. Charlie Atkins, also 14, was sixth quickest whilst 13-year-old rookie Tom Alexander finished 13th on the time-sheet. FP2 didn’t take place until Saturday lunchtime. All three riders bettered their lap times from the day before. Cook remained first overall in the standard class. Despite improving his time Atkins slipped to 9th and Alexander cut nearly seven tenths off his FP1 time. That afternoon the riders were back out on circuit to take part in the 25 minute qualifying session. The Wilson Racing team riders all reduced their lap times further. Gary Wilson from Dronfield and his Moto3 racing team took part in round one of the Hel Performance Motostar British standard class Championship at Donington Park last weekend. With all the riders in the class racing similar Moto3 machines the category is very competitive. Free practice started well for Max Cook as he ended the day at the top of the timesheets with a lap time of 1:42.483. Charlie Atkins posted the seventh quickest time and Tom Alexander improved his lap time over the two sessions by more than 1º.5 seconds. Qualification proved to be one of highs and lows for the team. Max Cook continued his superb form registering the fastest time in the standard class. In fact his lap time was good enough to place him in the middle of row two in the combined GP and standard class starting grid.
