Wilson Racing - Safer Recruitment Policy
Applicability: All Wilson Racing staff, instructors, engineers, mechanics, and volunteers working on team projects (including the British Cup and The F1000 Dames Cup program).
1. Purpose & Core Commitment
Wilson Racing Ltd is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people (under 18), and adults at risk. This Safer Recruitment Policy ensures that all staff, coaches, mechanics, and volunteers working alongside young participants are thoroughly vetted, suitably qualified, and share our commitment to trackside safety and participant protection.
2. Advertising & Job Descriptions

Safeguarding Commitment Statement: All vacancy notices, recruitment calls, and volunteer posts explicitly state Wilson Racing Ltd’s commitment to safeguarding and mandatory background vetting.

Clear Role Profiles: Job descriptions clearly define responsibilities, including whether the post involves direct supervision or regular contact with young drivers or mechanic attendees.
3. Application & Vetting Requirements

Standardized Application: Applicants must complete a formal application providing full work history, qualifications, and disclosures. Any gaps in employment must be declared and explained.

Reference Verification: A minimum of two professional references are obtained and verified directly with previous employers prior to confirmation of appointment.

Identity & Qualification Checks: Photographic ID, right-to-work documentation, and relevant motorsport/coaching qualifications are verified before trackside deployment.
4. Criminal Record & DBS Screening

Enhanced DBS Checks: Any personnel operating in regulated activity or maintaining regular contact with young people (under 18) must undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (or equivalent national screening).

Barred List Checks: Individuals barred from working with children or vulnerable groups will strictly not be appointed or deployed.
5. Induction & Ongoing Monitoring

Mandatory Induction: New staff and volunteers must complete a safeguarding induction, reviewing the team’s Safeguarding Policy, Social Media Policy, and Motorsport UK’s Race with Respect Code of Conduct.

Ongoing Supervision: All roles are subject to ongoing supervision and regular reviews by the team’s Designated Safeguarding Lead.
