Wilson Racing Safeguarding

Applicability: All Wilson Racing staff, drivers, mechanics, engineers, volunteers, contractors, and event/pilot participants (including the British Cup and The F1000 Dames Cup program).

1. Statement of Intent

Wilson Racing Ltd is committed to creating a safe, positive, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for everyone participating in motorsport. We recognize our fundamental duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of all individuals, with particular protection afforded to children and young people (under 18) and adults at risk.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. All staff, members, and participants associated with Wilson Racing Ltd are expected to adhere to this policy and support Motorsport UK’s Race with Respect Code of Conduct.

2. Core Principles

  • Paramount Welfare: The safety, well-being, and best interests of the child or adult at risk are paramount in all decisions and actions taken by the team.

  • Equal Protection: All participants, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation, have an equal right to protection from abuse, neglect, or poor practice.

  • Proactive Response: Any suspicion, disclosure, or allegation of harm or poor practice will be taken seriously and responded to promptly and appropriately.

3. Roles & Responsibilities

    • Responsibilities: Managing safeguarding queries, ensuring policy compliance, maintaining confidential records, and serving as the primary liaison with Motorsport UK’s Safeguarding Team and local statutory authorities.

  • Team Personnel & Volunteers:

    • Complete appropriate background checks (e.g., Enhanced DBS where applicable) prior to working with young people or adults at risk.

    • Maintain professional boundaries at all times, avoiding unobserved 1-on-1 situations with young people.

    • Report any safeguarding concerns or breaches immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or Motorsport UK.

4. Codes of Conduct & Safe Trackside Practice

To ensure trackside safety and participant protection across all test days, workshops, and race meetings:

  • Communications: All digital or direct messaging involving young people must include a parent, guardian, or designated team representative.

  • Physical Contact: Physical contact must be kept to what is necessary and appropriate for motorsport activities (e.g., safety harness fitment, helmet checks, or emergency response).

  • Photography & Media: Consent must be obtained before filming or publishing photos of participants, particularly young people or pilot candidates.

5. Procedure for Raising & Reporting Concerns

If you have a safeguarding concern, witness poor practice, or receive a disclosure of abuse:

  1. Immediate Safety: If an individual is in immediate danger, call emergency services (999) without delay.

  2. Internal Reporting: Inform the Wilson Racing Designated Safeguarding Lead as soon as possible.

  3. Escalation to Governing Body: If the Lead is unavailable or the concern involves senior team management, report the matter directly to the Motorsport UK Safeguarding Team:

All reports and personal data gathered during safeguarding procedures will be stored securely and confidentially in accordance with UK GDPR and Motorsport UK data retention guidelines. Information will only be shared on a need-to-know basis with statutory authorities or Motorsport UK’s Compliance/Safeguarding Officers.
