Top five at Thruxton

The British weather had a profound effect on the British Talent Cup event and Barnsley’s Wilson Racing at Thruxton this weekend. James Cook recovered well from a difficult start to finish race one in a commendable fifth position. Rookie teammate Luca Hopkins crossed the finish line in 14th whilst Ryan Hitchcock was unable to compete after crashing in free practice when strong winds caused him to fall and break his left wrist. Race two was cancelled after heavy rainfall. James Cook now has 76 points and is 4th overall in the British Talent Cup. Ryan Hitchcock is 10th on 44 points and Luca Hopkins is 19th with 13. Free practice Free practice proved to be a challenging time for the Wilson racing team. The spectator at the 2.4-mile Thruxton circuit basked in the sun this week, as they watched two superb Moto3 races. Barnsley’s Wilson Racing competed in round five of the Hel performance British Motostar standard class championship, a support class of British Superbikes. The team faced some challenges over the weekend, the first of which occurred early on when Jack Hart had a big crash in free practice. The 14-year-old fell at one of the fastest parts of the circuit in free practice one. The team did well to get the bike back together before the afternoon session and luckily, Jack Hart was not seriously hurt. Qualifying In qualifying, Scott Ogden was 6th for race one with Charlie Atkins 8th. Jake Clark would start 13th, Jack Hart 15th and Osian Jones 18th. Wilson Racing 1-2 at Thruxton

The Moto3 Wilson Racing Team from Barnsley were at Thruxton in the seventh round of the Hel Performance Motostar British standard class Championship. The support series to the British Superbike Championship started on Friday with two free practice sessions. FP1 turned out to be very eventful for Max Cook. Whilst the championship leader finished second overall he had a high-side on his tenth lap. This led to another rider crashing into his bike. Both riders were OK but Cook’s bike suffered major damage. The team worked flat out, replacing the chassis, fuel tank and fuel pump to get him back on track for FP2 where he finished fourth overall with a 1:24.307. Charlie Atkins set a good pace in FP1 and reduced his lap time by 1.6 seconds to 1:24.706. Jake Clark was experiencing the sweeping curves of Thruxton for the first time.
